Before taping things up I did do a continuity check and got a hit on two
points for the brown wire (remember it went one into two) - so, I was
very confident I had solved the problem (and hope my other attempts
had not damaged the speedo).
I used the pin to allow me to use my standard continuity tester.
Lots of tape, a few plastic ties, screwed everything back on under
the tank, put the tank back on put those two screws, tossed the seat on
and took it for a spin up the driveway.
First attempt (slow) no movement. Then I realized that silly little
10% thing, and went a bit faster. It works!
